The line between having a niche hobby and a diagnosis is getting thinner every day

I’m autistic and yet somehow nobody ever calls me autistic just cus I nerd out over extremely niche things. I hate how people treat our kind and apply it to anything these days.

Thats what happens when you get a diagnosis from Dr. TikTok

Dr. TikTok says if you have an attention span of more than 15 seconds and can stay focused on a single task until it’s complete you have autism.

Diagnosis only exists at this level to sell drugs anyways

Yes it’s become apparent in the last ten years that signs of intelligence are “autism”.

I try not to judge all the time but stuff like this is exhausting. My daughter has actual autism that was diagnosed by a doctor, which took leaps and bounds because people are faking it… Grr 😠
TLDR; see a doctor for an actual diagnosis

Me: I just don’t really like it when people skirt around the subject and want me to follow along
Them: because you’re autistic you don’t understand sarcasm or subtext

If people are insecure and think they have autism it’s not as harmful as developing an eating disorder. I would just let them have this one.

the tik tok autism people see real autistic people flapping hands and rocking and suddenly they don’t “have that type of autism” it is wild.
people don’t seem to understand autism is nervous system regulation issues, not social anxiety.

Hello. I am autistic. I don’t think it is appropriate for people to be so flippant about autism.
Having a niche hobby that you delve into is a very common trait of autism, but at the same time, it doesn’t mean everybody who has this trait is autistic.
Autism also involves sensory, social, and even motor differences that go beyond just having a strong interest in something.
I don’t know how to feel about people joking in this manner, because I feel like it simplifies autism too much. Just my two cents.

when someone likes trucks: “yeaaaaah, bad asss, someone has good taste” when someone likes trains: “damn, you must be autistic” i dont get people lmao. apparently liking a specific thing means you have autism, but other things dont…? like wut.
